First Aid, CPR, and AED Training

In order to increase the preparedness of our community, MIT Emergency Management collaborates with MIT EMS to offer trainings to individuals and departments in how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and apply First Aid. In fact, MIT is “HeartSafe Campus”, meaning we encourage and promote community awareness of the potential for saving the lives of sudden cardiac arrest victims through the use CPR and increased public access to defibrillation.  

CPR Training

More than 350,000 people in the United States suffer from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest each year and just 12 percent survive. However, statistics show that if more people knew CPR, more lives could be saved. Immediate CPR can double, or even triple, a victim’s chance of survival. MIT EMS is able to provide the following courses:

First Aid Training

If you have limited or no medical training and would like to learn how to respond to and manage a first aid, choking, or other immediate medical emergency in the first few minutes until emergency responders or healthcare professionals take over, this class is for you. Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock, and other first aid emergencies.

AED Training

It is estimated that every year between 250,000 and 400,000 people suffer from sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in the United States. Ventricular fibrillation is listed as the most prevalent cause of SCA, and can be successfully treated with early defibrillation. Defibrillation can be accomplished by employing an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on a victim of SCA. AED training can improve your awareness and use of an AED.
